Celebrating Pride Week at 91鶹

22 Sep 2025
MASU kicks off Pride Week September 24 with a series of events

91鶹is excited to celebrate Pride with a week of activities organized by the 91鶹Students’ Union (MASU). Although Pride month is in June, each year Pride Week is celebrated on campus and in the Municipality of Tantramar in September when students return to campus.

“Pride Week is incredibly important to celebrate in September, as it sets the tone for the year and welcomes students to an inclusive and supportive community,” says MASU’s VP, External Affairs, Oliver Vanbuskirk. “91鶹students may be coming to campus from all different communities and cultures with varying acceptance for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, so by hosting a week's worth of fun events centred around Pride, it will hopefully foster a safe environment for all students.”

Events will kick off Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. with the Pride Flag Raising and Pride Parade. All students, faculty, staff, and the wider community are welcome to attend and celebrate in support of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

“I hope that students can see Pride Week as a continuous celebration and acknowledgement," says MASU VP, Student Life, Anna Grear. “Where it happens in September, it's a reminder that Pride is not secluded to June but is something that is consistently recognized and celebrated at Mount Allison. As well, I'd hope that students feel both proud and safe at the school they attend and the community that has been created.”

This year, MASU will be hosting a Queer Academic Panel where queer-identifying faculty and staff discuss how academics intersect with identity and the impact on their journey within their field. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend.

“I am excited for all of the events we have planned, but I am personally most excited for the Queer Academic Panel and I can't wait to hear from some of our amazing queer-identifying faculty and staff and their views on how academics interact with identity, and how ‘queerness’ impacts leadership in academia,” says Vanbuskirk.
