Cyber Security Awareness Month at Mount Allison
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month at Mount Allison. Starting this month, the Computing Services Department (CSD) will be sharing helpful information and resources throughout the academic year to help the University community learn about cyber security and test their knowledge.
This month, the focus is on how every member of our community can act as a human firewall — making small, mindful decisions online that protect both the University and yourself from cyber threats.
“Cyber security is not just about technology, it’s about people,” says Director of Computing Services John Gillis. “As phishing, social engineering, and AI-driven attacks become increasingly sophisticated, awareness and vigilance from our community remain the best defence.”
Students, faculty, and staff can take the to test their digital knowledge for a chance to win $50 Mountie Money to be used for food, printing, or at the Bookstore. Two draws will be held: one for students and another for faculty and staff.
Throughout the academic year, CSD will feature a cyber security topic each month to help the community stay informed and stay safe online. The deadline to take the quiz is Friday, Oct. 31 and winners will be announced in November.
