91Â鶹

91Â鶹will introduce paid parking on campus beginning January 2026.

Here’s what you need to know about permits, registration, and key dates.

Parking permit registration

You’ll register your vehicle by license plate through Mount Allison’s parking website by creating an account — no physical pass or decal will be required. Registration details will be announced in October.

Permit types and costs

Permit type

Prorated cost + tax
(Jan.– April 2026)

8-month cost + tax (Starting Sept. 2026)

Access
GENERAL PARKING PERMIT $130 $260

Daytime parking in University lots; includes residence students.

Best for: Those on campus for the full academic year who regularly brings a vehicle, including residence students.

Note: Residence students must contact parking@mta.ca after registering so their status as a residence student can be confirmed before purchasing a permit.

OVERNIGHT PARKING PERMIT $195 $390

Daytime access in University lots plus overnight parking in designated overnight lots, (King Street, Edwards/Thornton, Lansdowne)

Best for: Anyone who needs both daytime and overnight parking.

Note: Residence students must contact parking@mta.ca after registering so their status as a residence student can be confirmed before purchasing a permit.

MONTHLY PERMIT $32.50 $40

Same access as a General Parking Permit: Daytime Parking in University lots.

Best for: Short-term visitors, people who don’t bring a car regularly, or those starting mid-year.

HOURLY PERMIT N/A $2

Same access as a General Parking Permit for short-term, day-time parking.

Best for: Visitors coming during the day to visit campus.

CARPOOLING ADD-ON

N/A General Parking Permit + $50 per vehicle

This add-on allows multiple drivers to share one permit and take turns bringing a vehicle to campus. It can be purchased as an add-on to a General, Overnight, or Designated Permit. Only one vehicle may be parked on campus at a time under a shared permit.

Best for: Carpool groups (students, faculty, or staff) who want to share driving responsibilities and split the cost of a parking permit.

Important: If you personally own more than one vehicle, you do not need a carpool add-on. You can register multiple vehicles under your permit at no extra cost and select which vehicle you will be bringing to campus in your online account — as long as only one is parked on campus at a time.

DESIGNATED PARKING
(includes overnight access)

$300 $600

Daytime parking with access to designated spaces across campus; limited availability.

Best for: Anyone who wants the convenience of a guaranteed parking space at a premium cost. A carpooling permit can be purchased as an add-on to a Designated Parking Permit.

A phased approach to paid parking

Since paid parking begins January 2026, permits purchased for January–April will be charged at a reduced rate (prorated) price — half of the regular 8-month cost. Monthly permits from January–April will also be reduced so that purchasing four consecutive months equals the cost of the prorated General Parking Permit. This phased approach is designed to give students, faculty, and staff time to adjust to the new system before full 8-month pricing begins in September 2026.

Parking access and hours

Permits will be required for all vehicles parked on campus during the academic year (September–April).

  • General, Designated, and Carpooling Parking Permits are enforced Monday–Friday, 6 a.m.–6 p.m.
  • Overnight Parking Permits are required in designated lots (King Street, Thornton/Edwards, and Lansdowne Street), which are monitored 24/7.

Faculty and staff parking

  • The Rectory Lane lot and Convocation Hall lot will be designated for faculty and staff parking only.
  • Faculty and staff may park in other campus lots with a valid parking permit, subject to availability.
  • A valid parking permit is still required to park in faculty/staff lots.
  • Students will not be permitted to park in the Rectory Lane lot or Convocation Hall lot.

Parking regulations and citations

Security will monitor parking lots and issue citations for vehicles not following the permit regulations.

A full, updated 91Â鶹Parking Policy will be posted in December 2025, providing full details on parking regulations, permit use, and management.

Important dates

  • October 2025 – Online vehicle registration opens (details coming soon).
  • November 2025 – Parking permits will go on sale in advance (exact date to be announced).
  • December 2025 – The new parking policy will be posted on mta.ca.
  • January 2026 – Paid parking permits are required in all University parking lots. Full permit compliance begins.

FAQ

I have two vehicles — do I need to buy a permit for each car?

No. You will be able to register multiple vehicles under the same permit at no extra cost, as long as only one vehicle is parked on campus at a time. You can switch between vehicles in your online account.

What is being done to improve parking lot conditions?

This fall, Rectory Lane and Hillcrest lots will be regraded and compacted with gravel to improve their condition.

We will continue to assess and maintain parking areas regularly to ensure safe and accessible parking for the campus community.

Reminder: The new Lansdowne Street lot is now open and available for use.

How will paid parking impact the availability of parking spaces on campus?

Paid parking is intended to encourage alternative transportation options like walking, biking, or carpooling. As a result, while demand for parking may continue to grow due to an increasing number of commuters, the paid parking model will help manage demand by promoting carpooling and alternative transportation to campus.

Will parking be enforced 24/7, including weekends?

Parking enforcement depends on the time of day and applies during the academic year (September–April).

  • Overnight (12 a.m.–6 a.m.):

Monitored every night, including weekends. Overnight parking is limited to permit holders.
  • Weekdays (6 a.m.–6 p.m.):

Monitored Monday–Friday for General, Designated, and Carpooling permits.

  • Evenings (6 p.m.–12 a.m.) and Weekends (6 a.m.–6 p.m.):

Not actively monitored during lower-demand periods.

Examples:

  • If you have a General Permit and stay parked until 7:30 p.m., you will not receive a citation.
  • If you are a guest attending a theatre performance between 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., you will not receive a citation.

These changes — including reduced evening and weekend monitoring — were made in response to community feedback to make parking more flexible while still managing demand during busy times. The full Parking Policy will be released in December 2025.

How will I be able to purchase a parking permit?

Students, faculty, and staff can purchase parking permits online through Mount Allison's Parking website. More details will be shared in the fall.

If you'd prefer to pay with debit or credit, you can visit the Security kiosk located in the Wallace McCain Student Centre.

Can I get a refund on my parking pass if I don't use it?

Parking passes are non-refundable. Please choose the parking pass that best suits your needs. If you are uncertain about requiring a full-year pass (such as a daytime parking pass), we recommend purchasing a pass for one term instead of committing to the full year. This allows flexibility in case your parking needs change.

Can faculty and staff use payroll deduction to pay for parking passes?

Payroll deduction is not available for purchasing a parking permit.

We are providing advance notice to help the University community and the wider community plan for purchasing a parking permit in 2026. Multiple payment options, including debit and credit, will be available starting in Fall 2025.

During the January–April 2026 phased rollout, monthly permits will be reduced so that purchasing four consecutive months equals the cost of a prorated General Parking Permit. This gives you the option to spread your payments out month-to-month while paying the same total amount as a single prorated permit.

Can the cost of a parking pass be added to my tuition?

The cost of a parking pass cannot be added to your tuition.

Parking fees are managed separately from tuition and must be paid through the Security office or the online portal. We will be offering various payment methods to make the process convenient, including credit, debit, and online payment.

If I buy a parking permit, will I be guaranteed a parking space?

Purchasing a parking permit does not guarantee a parking space. Parking operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

A reminder that a new parking lot on Lansdowne Street has recently opened, providing another option for permit holders. While we strive to provide sufficient parking for all permit holders, availability may vary during peak times. We recommend arriving early, especially during high-demand periods (9 a.m.–1 p.m.), to increase the likelihood of finding a spot.

I require accessible parking, where can I park?

If you require accessible parking, a parking permit will still be required. Additionally, if you have a valid accessible parking permit issued by the province, you can park in any of the designated accessible parking spaces available across campus upon coordination with the People and Culture department.

Will Tantramar community members and other visitors be able to purchase a permit?

Yes, Sackville/Tantramar community members and other campus visitors will be able to purchase parking permits. These will be available online through the same Parking website used by students, faculty, and staff.

More information will be shared once registration details are finalized.

Do I need a parking permit to park on the street?

No. Street parking is managed by the Municipality of Tantramar, not 91Â鶹, so a University parking permit is not required. Be sure to follow municipal parking regulations and posted signs to avoid tickets or towing.

Do I need a parking permit to park at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre?

No. The Civic Centre lot is managed by the Municipality of Tantramar, and 91Â鶹permits will not be valid or required there.

While the Municipality may occasionally allow parking during special events, the lot is not intended for regular use by 91Â鶹community members.
